Go Fly A Kite

Bali Post reports that with the return of the kite-flying season in June and July, officials in Bali are introducing new rules and regulations to reduce the traffic congestion caused with village kite teams travel to kite competition with massively sized kites that quite often close all traffic lanes on major roads.
New rules for kite-flying teams participating in the Sanur Kite Festival July 22-23, 2017, require kites be constructed in a “knock-down” fashion so they will fit in the back of standard-sized trucks for trips to and from competitions.

Officials say the new “knock-down” system will prove very important in the Annual Kite Festival held each July on Sanur Beach. In the past, enormous kites traveling to the Padang Galak kite competition field have been blamed for traffic gridlock across South Bali.

In addition to rules mandating knockdown kite construction, participants at this year event will also be judged on the cleanliness and environmental concern demonstrated by each team
